The Best White Paint Colors for Walls, Trim & Baseboards
Expert Tips for Choosing A Fresh New White
So you want to refresh a your walls or trim? Thinking of a simple white paint? Think again! For anyone who has attempted to find the “perfect white” – you know this is no small feat! Choosing the right white paint (or neutral) can transform your space, but the wrong white—especially when paired with other colors—can disrupt the vibe. Room size, light sources and surrounding colors affect how the white appears on walls or trim so be sure to start with a “color check” within the space itself. (not in the paint store!)

Picking the Right White with Benjamin Moore Paint
White paint can be a bit of a challenge because there are so many different shades, each has its own subtle undertones. Because most whites have hints of blue, yellow, gray, or even pink, it’s no wonder why people run screaming from the paint store! Most folks default on Benjamin Moore’s Decorators White Or Super White – just to get on with their day. But this default mode doesn’t always give you the best results.
Below I’ll address cool and warm whites, and some of my favorites in each category to get you started on your painting project! As a Benny Moore fan, all my recommended whites below are from the Benjamin Moore line.
My Favorite White Paint
My GO-TO, all time favorite white paint is Ben Moore’s Chantilly Lace OC-65. Its beautiful, soft and plays well with cool and warm colors. It’s crisp and clear making it perfect for trim, but its also great for white accent walls (like brick walls & paneled rooms) and coffered ceilings. Honestly, I’ve never met anyone who disliked Chantilly Lace! Other fabulous tried & true whites include Distant Gray OC-68 (don’t let the name fool you- it doesn’t read grey!) and White Heron OC-57. These typically work well in most people’s home.

Choosing the Best Warm and Cool White Trim Paint Colors for Your Home
If you have rich, WARM TONES throughout your home, selecting a warmer white might fit the bill. White Dove OC-17 is hugely popular for white trim, as well as Cloud Cover OC-25. These paint colors also work well for older homes, where stark white hues should be avoided. Want something brighter that still has a warm undertone? Try Simply White OC-117.
Does your decor & existing paint tones fall more in the cool category? Then consider COOL WHITES (whites that have subtle grey/blue undertones) for your next trim painting project. Winter Snow OC-63 and Snow White OC-66 are beautiful whites that have just a touch of grey. *Confused about warm & cool paint colors & how to tell them apart? Read more here!

The Best White Paint for Walls: Expert-Recommended Shades for a Fresh Look
The “white on white” look is a fantastic way to give your home a fresh, new appeal. But the trick is choosing the right white combinations – wall & trim colors – to add depth to the space. Be mindful however! If you choose a white that is too stark on your walls it can end up looking flat, unfinished or even worse – just like primer! Let’s take a look at some great options below.
For a soft pairing with Chantilly Lace, where the contrast between walls and trim is minimal, I recommend warmer whites like Swiss Coffee OC-45 or Mountain Peak White OC-121 on your walls. If you’re looking for just a hint of grey try using Vanilla Milkshake OC- 59. But if you want to bring a cozy, warm glow to the room, Cloud White OC-130 is a beloved choice.

If you’re thinking of painting both the walls and trim the same color (perfect for spaces like bathrooms or alcoves), White Dove OC-17 is a fantastic pick. For a sleek, all-white monochromatic vibe, Winter Snow OC-63 is another favorite of mine.
Looking for a new twist on your space? Try “contrast trim” for your white on white look. This contrast technique adds sophistication and makes the trim really stand out. It’s super popular in modern and contemporary design, where the slightly darker trim becomes a stylish statement against lighter walls.

Neutral Paint Colors for a Timeless and Versatile Home Aesthetic
If you test a white paint and it appears flat or uninspired (this is often the case when people actually start painting a room white!) try opting for a stronger neutral on your walls instead. Some of my favorite strong neutrals from Ben Moore are Intense White OC-51 and Grey Mist OC- 30. (Don’t worry, this one isn’t actually a grey!) Paper White OC-55 is another neutral that adds depth & interest to any room. (though Paper White is a grey—just to keep things interesting!) Need a deeper, timeless neutral that goes with any decor? Benny Moore’s top-selling taupe – Edgecomb Grey HC-173 – is a fantastic choice.

Tinted Whites – White Paint But More Fun!
I would not be doing my job as an Interior Designer if I didn’t suggest a color upgrade! It’s always fun to step outside your comfort zone, right? (Or at the very least- explore these options.) When selecting white wall paint take a moment to look at the tinted shades. These whites have lovely undertones of colors like blue, yellow, orange, or even pink, adding depth and warmth to your space. It’s a simple way to make your walls feel more inviting and unique!

Some of my favorite tints have actually been inspired by my amazing clients. One mom of two young boys was on the hunt for a cheery, yet neutral, shade for her dining room. She landed on Sugar Cookie OC-93— and it’s just as warm and inviting as she is! It reminds me of soft daylight and instantly makes any room feel more welcoming. If you’re after a softer, blush-toned vibe, I highly recommend giving Opal OC-73 or First Light 2102-70 a try.

Tints of blue, grey, and purple can really bring that timeless, classic vibe to a space. These shades are great for creating clean, sophisticated lines, while still keeping things light and airy. If you’re going for a calming, Scandinavian-inspired feel, Sea Foam 2123-60 and Lily White 2128-70 are the perfect picks! They’ll create a serene atmosphere that’s both refreshing and stylish. Looking for an enchanted vibe? Try Full Moon 2119-70 or Dreamy Cloud 2117-70 to evoke mysterious luxury.
